Thank you, Dad

As summer approaches, pools open, and our calendars begin to fill up with parties and get-togethers, it’s hard to keep up. With a party here and an event there, it leaves minimal time to just sit down and take a breath. It should go without saying, but no matter how busy our schedules get, or how much life can get in the way, it is always important to thank our dads, or father figures, on Father’s Day. Although this shouldn’t be the only day that you show your father gratitude and thanks a year, it should be a day that you simply put your busy schedules aside, set your phones on silent, and spend quality time with the man that raised you, taught you endless life lessons, and said “yes” when your mother said “no.” These courageous, supportive, and loving men in our lives deserve the recognition that they “claim” they do not need (because yes, apparently men “don’t like the mushy stuff,” or so they say).

So whether it’s your father, grandfather, step-dad, or just a man that has been there for you, do not forget to give them the gift of admiration and love this coming Father’s Day. Even though they may act tough on the outside, I promise that every father wants to be recognized and appreciated for what they do. So, to the best dad in the world—thank you.

Do not forget to purchase our oil-free and lightweight Total Repair After Shave Lotion before Father’s Day! Our sale ends on June 18th.

4 Important Places You Aren’t Protecting From Sun (But Should)

Although you may already be aware of the importance of sunscreen, and its many benefits, as it reduces your risk of melanoma and other types of skin cancer, it is important to also realize when to apply, where to apply, and how often. Most of the time, we only apply sunscreen on areas that we assume get the most sun exposure, often forgetting about those hard-to-reach areas. But here’s the thing: Melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer, can appear anywhere on the body, including areas we neglect to protect from the sun—like our lips, the top of our ears and even the soles of our feet. By making sure you cover all your bases, and applying sunscreen to every exposed area of skin, you significantly decrease the threat of melanoma and other types of skin cancer. To help you with this, here are the four places you tend to miss protecting your skin from the sun, but are unquestionably important to cover.

1. Lips

In order to protect your lips, try using a gloss or balm that has SPF. This will help protect your lips from UV damage, as the most common types of  nonmelanomaskin cancer often occur on our lips.

Try: Vibran-C Lip Treatment SPF 15

2. Scalp

Although protecting your scalp is more prevalent in men with thinning hair, those with long or thick hair are still vulnerable to melanoma. Wearing caps and wide-brimmed hats during prolonged sun exposure allow you to protect your scalp (and look stylish, of course)!

3. Face

According to the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, a 2013 survey revealed that only 30 percent of women apply sunscreen on their face and other exposed skin regularly. Considering that 70 percent of basal cell carcinoma occur on the face, this statistic is scary. Applying sunscreen to your face, or brightening cream with SPF, is pivotal when being out in the sun.

Try: Tinted Brightening BB Cream SPF 50+

4. Eyelids

This may seem like an odd spot to protect from the sun, but eyelids are another common site for nonmelanoma skin cancer. Many skip this area, as some sunscreens may leave a stinging sensation on your eye. In order to protect your eyelids, try using makeup or primer with SPF, aiding in protecting your face overall, including your eyelids.

Try: Retexturizing Face Primer SPF 20

7 Things You Should Be Doing Every Day for Clear Skin

Clear skin is something that we all strive for. Not only does your skin impact your self-confidence, but it also influences your social habits, psyche and can trigger anxiety. With so many factors working against us—pollution, hormones and other pore-clogging elements, accomplishing the task of clear and blemish-free skin may seem somewhat impossible. Although there are so many harmful skin aggressors surrounding our daily lives, there are, thankfully, a few lifestyle changes that can get your skin back on track. According to dermatologists, here are the top skin care tips to achieve healthy and clear skin.

1. Use an Appropriate Facial Cleanser for your Skin

With so many different cleansers being advertised everywhere we look, it is important that you chose one that is beneficial for your skin type. Whether you have dry, oily, combination or sensitive skin, you must take this into consideration when selecting your everyday facial cleanser. Doing so allows the right balance of ingredients to work its magic and cleanse your skin efficiently and effectively.

2. Use a Sonic Cleansing System

Along with the appropriate facial cleanser for your skin type, using a sonic cleansing system takes off more makeup, bacteria and dirt from your skin, compared to just using the cleanser alone. It provides a deep clean and exfoliates your skin’s surface, leaving your face smoother and softer, ultimately influencing a clearer complexion.

3. Apply Retinoids Before Bed

Retinoids provide a plethora of benefits for your skin, including evening out discoloration and brightening skin tone, reducing wrinkles, preventing fine lines and unclogging pores in order to make them look smaller and reduce acne. Applying a retinoid, which best for those who do not have ultra-sensitive skin,  as part of your nighttime skin care routine can help reduce fine lines, unclog pores and even out your skin tone,  in order to create clearer and healthier-looking skin.

Try: Retinol Plus Smoothing Serum

4. Get a Good Night Sleep

Although we all love sleeping, it isn’t as easy to get the amount sleep as we need in a given night. When you are sleeping, your skin restores itself. Therefore, lack of sleep can lead to a more tired-looking complexion, puffy under-eye bags, dark circles and even breakouts. Creating a nighttime routine that is conducive to relaxing and getting your body ready for a good night sleep can significantly help not only the ease of falling asleep, but also staying asleep through the night.

5. Always Use Sunscreen

While using sunscreen every day and applying it generously is important, many sunscreens are oil-based, which can clog your pores and create new blemishes. Finding a sunscreen that works with your skin type and protects you from not only the sun, but from blemishes as well, is actually easier than you think. Make sure to also choose an SPF that protects you from both UVA and UVB rays.

Try: H&H Science Sheer Antioxidant Sunscreen SPF 50+

6. Avoiding Picking, Popping and Poking

We know—it’s hard to resist the urge to pop your pimples. Although this probably isn’t your first time hearing this, a little reminder will hopefully do the trick. Don’t pick, poke or pop your pimples. If you have a blemish that you are desperate to pop, try using a spot treatment or cream instead. Popping will only do harm, while spot treatments are designed to clear existing blemishes and prevent future blemishes from forming.

Try: H&H Science Spot Treatment Gel

7. Use a Toner

If your morning and evening skin care routines don’t already include using a toner, today is the day to start. Choosing a toner with glycolic acid or salicylic acid unclog your pores for clearer skin. Toners can also balance your skin’s natural pH levels, while soothing your complexion and minimizing breakouts.

Try: Salicylic Treatment Pads

What to Pack for Any Summer Weekend Getaway

From lounging poolside or soaking up the sun by the ocean or lake, there’s no better reason to get out of town (and away from your computer and work routine.)

If you are also looking to save some money, time, and avoid a luggage mishap, packing light for these small getaways is the way to go. With TSA’s 3.4-ounces limit, you might have to leave behind your jumbo-size bottle of shampoo at home. The good news? H&H Science has your go-to list below for summer-inspired and travel-sized beauty products for your body, face and more.

Need ideas? Here’s what to pack in your carry-on this summer so you can spend your weekends hitting the shore and running in style.

A Purse-Friendly Cleansing Device

Packing light doesn’t always mean sacrificing comforts. If you love thoroughly cleansing your face with a face-cleansing device every night, consider swapping your builder gadget with our H&H Sonic Facial Cleansing Device. Small in size but powerful in action, this device not only is self-cleaning, but it also removes dirt and imperfection from your pores without taking a ton of precious real estate in your luggage. You can use this Sonic Device 300x before it runs out of power, so feel free to power up and leave the charger at home.

Your Entire Skin Care Routine – in TSA-Approved Sizes

Prioritizing your skin’s health (even on vacation) is totally fine. Taking the time to empty all of your skin care products into the travel-approved size bottles is such a hassle. The good news? All of the regular-sized products in our H&H Anti-Photoaging Systems are in TSA-Approved sizes. This travel- friendly set (comes in Normal and Sensitive) has your full skin care regimen (the BB Cream doubles as makeup and SPF).

Makeup Multitaskers: The Nude Kit

Instead of packing multiple kits and palettes in your makeup bag, consider our 3-in-one H&H Nude Kit. Complete with 9 neutral eyeshadows, 1 highlight, 1 contour and 2 blush colors.

Your Sun-Kissed Tan: Fake Bake Flawless Self-Tan Liquid Travel Size

Even if you’re going to the beach, it’s great to have your sunless-tanner with you to maintain that refreshed and sun-kissed glow. Fake Bake’s Liquid Flawless Self Tanner is now travel size. H&H Science New Favorites

Typically when i’m shopping for new H&H Science products, I tend to buy the same things. Last month I decided to give some new products a try and I’m very glad I did! Here are my three new H&H Science favorites!

Deep Detox Hair Treatment:

The Deep Detox Hair Treatment has always been a product I’ve wanted to try, but never got around to. This treatment is definitely one of my favorite purchases because of how well it works. It has never failed to leave my hair feeling soft and protected. Plus, it only takes one to two minutes to do it’s job, making it much easier to use in the morning, at night, or any time of the day.

Detox My Hair Shampoo:

My next newest purchase is the Detox My Hair Shampoo. My previous experience with H&H Science shampoos and conditioners were great, so I decided to change up my hair care routine with new products. With this shampoo, my hair feels cleaner and more protected with every use. I would definitely recommend this shampoo to people who feel their hair is damaged or in need of an extra clean.

Moisturizing Argan Oil Conditioner:

At first I was hesitant when buying a new conditioner because I wasn’t sure if it would work for my hair, but I’m glad I decided to give it a try. This conditioner always leaves my hair feeling soft and smooth. I can’t wait to use it over the summer to make sure the sun or pool water isn’t damaging my hair!
