My 3 Favorite Face Products for Spring

As the weather changes, so does the makeup and other face products I use. Since it’s getting warmer I like to use products that are lighter on my skin. They are my go to for this time of year!

Ultra Lite Oil Free Moisturizer

I have been loving this moisturizer since I started using it! It is great for any time of year, but I especially love it now. As it starts getting warmer, my skin starts to get oilier and this moisturizer is the fix. It gets the job done without being too heavy on my skin. Don’t forget even when your skin is oily you still need to moisturize!

Mineral Sheer Tint

I have only been using this for about a month, but the second I put it on my skin I fell in love. It gives me just the right about of coverage, but still feels like I’m not wearing anything! It’s so easy to apply but my favorite way is to use my flawless face blender. This product is great if you don’t feel like wearing a lot of makeup everyday.

Nude Kit

Perfect for any look, I have been using my kit extra lately. Whether you want a subtle glow or perfectly defined cheek bones, the H&H Nude Kit can do it all. I have been using the bronze shade around the perimeter of my face to give a little color. Fake a summer tan in the spring!

Post-Workout Routine

Everyday after school I have track practice for over an hour, which requires a lot of movement and physical activity. With that comes more breakouts, especially around my forehead, so here is my post-workout skincare routine to keep my skin clean and clear!

Step 1:

As soon as I get home from practice, I wash my face with the H&H Sensitive Acne Cleanser. I typically use my H&H Sonic Facial Cleansing Device as well to make sure my skin is getting the deepest clean possible. It is important to wash your face after most physical activity to keep your pores clear of any dirt or oil your face may have acquired while working out.

Step 2:

After washing my face with a cleanser, I use the H&H Toning Treatment Pads for an extra clean. The Toning Treatment Pads are definitely one of my favorite H&H Science products because they are quick and easy and can be taken anywhere. If I am ever in a hurry and don’t have time to wash my face completely, I love being able to use the Toning Treatment Pads to make sure my skin is still being cleaned, just in a less time consuming way.

Step 3:

For my third and final step, I moisturize my face with my H&H Ultra Light Oil Free Moisturizer. Everyday for practice I am most likely outside, which can take a toll on your skin, especially in colder weather. I use this moisturizer to keep my skin from getting dry or crackly, like it often does during the colder months. I prefer this brand over others because it dries quickly and doesn’t leave my skin feeling oily.

My Vacation with H&H Science

This month was the month of fun vacations and relaxation. With spring break coming up in the middle of the month, I was eager to make sure my skin looked flawless for my trip to California. I made sure to step up my skin care regimen to help me look my very best! In addition to using my H&H Science face wash, I used the H&H Pore Minimizing Masque more often than I normally do. My skin is pretty normal but extremely sensitive. This mask is an awesome tool to tighten my skin and make sure that I get all the gunk our of my pores before I had an awesome vacation.

Next, I moisturized religiously. I did not want any dry, flakey skin around my nose area so the H&H Ultra Lite Oil-Free Moisturizer was my best friend both before and during my vacation. The skin care didn’t stop with just washing and moisturizing my face though!

When I started packing for break, my makeup bag was full of H&H products. I made sure to remember to bring something with a good amount of SPF in it to protect my skin from all the sun. The H&H Mineral Sheer Tint was the perfect every day product to help protect and perfect my skin. some other products that were accompanying me on my trip were the H&H Baked Hydrating Powder and the H&H Photo Touch Concealer. These were both awesome products to help transition my makeup from beach to night out!

Finally, the H&H Volume-X Mascara in the color Absolute Black, and a few lipsticks were fantastic additions to my makeup bag for this trip. H&H always does their best to make sure my skin is gorgeous and protected for every event by making makeup that never hurts my skin! I make sure to bring my trusty H&H products with me every time I go somewhere, just to make sure I have the best vacation possible with flawless skin and gorgeous makeup.

Spring Break Essentials

Spring Break Essentials

With spring break around the corner everyone seems to keep busy with school work and making plans, but you must set aside time for your skin! Whether you’re going on vacation or staying home, spring break is not a break for your skin, so here are my 3 favorite H&H Science products essential for spring break!

H&H Science Sunscreen:

Especially if you are going on vacation, H&H Science Sunscreen is a must for your trip! Personally, I prefer this sunscreen over other brands because it comes with smooth application and leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturized. It also dries very quickly and does not leave an oily residue on your face, which is one of my biggest pet peeves when purchasing sunscreen. Even if you are staying home for break, sunscreen should still be applied everyday to make sure your skin is protected.

Healthy Shine Keratin Shampoo and Conditioner:

As the weather continues to get warmer, the sun not only has an impact on your skin, but your hair as well. Growing up with thick, curly hair, I have learned to make sure my shampoo and conditioner keeps my hair healthy and protected. The H&H Healthy Shine Keratin Shampoo and Conditioner has softened and strengthened my hair, compelling me to wear it naturally more often and to feel confident in it. I would recommend this shampoo and conditioner to people with all hair types, especially if you feel your hair is frizzy or damaged, as it often gets during spring or summer.

Sonic Facial Cleansing Device:

The H&H Sonic Facial Cleansing Device is not necessarily limited to spring break, but is still very useful and has made all the difference in my skin. It is important to make sure you set aside time in your day to care for your skin and wash your face properly, even if you are busy over break.

5 Tips for Caring for Teen Skin

Your teenage years are a tough transition period for any child. Physical changes on the outside; hormonal changes on the inside. As a parent, we are still learning how to adjust our parenting skills to help them right along.

With acne also being genetic (your child is more likely to suffer with acne if you experienced acne as a teen), there are still many things as a parent you can do to help your child manage and take preventative action towards their acne.

As a skin care expert and having worked alongside my mom, Dr. Helen Torok, Board Certified Dermatologist, in helping diagnose and treat teenage acne for over 10 years and have found these 5 tips below to be effective in navigating these troublesome years.

NOTE: These tips along will not cure the concerns of cystic acne, which is very painful and severe acne cysts. I would refer any of my clients over to Dr. Helen Torok for a professional examination in order to receive the appropriate prescription. These tips are to help in being effective in managing and preventing both teen and adult acne.

Tip #1: Cleanliness

It’s no shock to say that most teens are not the most hygienic humans. Hormones alongside active oil glands combined with gym class and after school activities create a full face of dirt, debris, oil and sweat. It is important to stress to your children to cleanse their face and body at least twice a day (morning and evening).

How: Pick a cleanser that is medical-grade (meaning the product is a higher strength of something they would pick up at their local grocery store) and lathers well. I recommend our Sensitive Acne Cleanser as it is a creamy cleanser that treats acne without drying or irritating the skin.

Showering daily is also necessary to keep the oil from their hair from slipping down onto their face. Greasy hair? Not so great for breakouts on the forehead. To cut down on time, keep your Sensitive Acne Cleanser in the shower to be able to wash their face while showering.

Tip #1: Stop Touching

Our hands are the most bacteria-ridden parts of our body. They are crawling with germs and kids love to touch their face. Innocently picking at things or lying their palm on their cheek can transfer that bacteria straight into the pores.

Also, NO PICKING! Most acne scarring occur because teens continue to pick at pimples, drawing blood and therefore creating scabs and holds that can take weeks or even months to heal.

Tip #3: Eat Wisely

Having healthy skin is important both inside and out. By staying away from refined sugars and processed foods such as meats with nitrates and excessive amounts of dairy, your teen’s skin will have less inflammation caused by certain foods.

Our skin is the largest organ of our body and we need to feed it wisely. By taking a daily vitamin, such as our Clear Skin Vitamin, it can help provide the nutrients needed to support the production of strong, healthy skin at the internal cellular level.

Tip #4: Identify and Treat Blackheads Early

The reality is that even if your teen adheres to and follows all these tips, they will still get blackheads. It’s just a part of life. But if you can treat the blackheads before they turn into pimples zits, you’re ahead of the game!

Manual extraction is really the only way to remove blackheads. If you cannot get to a local esthetician for extraction, I recommend preparing the face and performing the extractions from home.

How? Wash your face first in the shower, letting the shower steam open and relax your pores for about 10 minutes. Follow up with a gentle cleanser and use a Sonic Facial Cleansing Device to gently scrub the face, but without being too abrasive or harmful.

After rising the face and drying off, gently extract any black heads from the face using a Kleenex or tissue wrapped around your fingers and a close mirror. Once you’ve extracted any blackheads you need to re-wash your face to make sure all leftover bacteria hiding in the pores are removed.

Lastly, to prevent future blackheads, use our Pore Minimizing Masque at night to tighten and re-close your pores.

Tip #4: Get Educated About Your Skin (Or Your Teen’s Skin) and Skin Care Products

Instead of reading a product recommendation from someone or seeing it on TV, learn about your particular skin type and why it does what it does so that you can navigate the brands and products out there as an educated consumer vs. someone just grabbing for something off a shelf out of convenience.

At H&H Science, I offer 1-on-1 skin care consultations with myself and we determine your skin exact type, review what products works best for your skin and I’ll recommend the correct medical-grade regimen that will help keep your skin or teen’s skin both clear and clean!
