Fall Into Beautiful Skin

As days begin to shorten and the heat turns into crisp fall air, your skin’s hydration level may vary. In the summer, the humidity tends to increase your skin’s moisture level. As the air and wind get colder, this causes drier skin. While many are excited to bring out their fall wardrobe, including myself, it is important to also detox your skin and repair summer damage before the weather begins to change.

Summer Damage

While summertime is full of fun activities and nice weather, it also leads to a lot of harmful effects on the skin. Throughout the summer months, aside from the risks of sun damage, dehydration also comes along with the hot weather. With the hot temperatures, an increase in sweat and oil production can cause acne breakouts due to clogged pores. With prolonged sun exposure, skin discoloration, wrinkle formation and the risk of skin cancer are also side effects of exposure and damage form the sun’s rays. Not only does the weather have damaging effects on the skin, but time spent in the swimming pool and chlorine also leads to dehydration of the skin.

How To Prep For Fall

Giving your skin some love and attention before the season changes is crucial.

By increasing your intake of antioxidants, such as adding H&H Science C-Bright Serum to your skin care regimen, you are helping to prevent breakouts and dry skin as the weather gets cooler.  Switching to gentler and more hydrating skin care products is also important, as your skin needs an increase in moisture throughout the cooler months. This will also make your skin less likely to itch, crack or look red throughout the season. Lastly, facial peels help to exfoliate the dull outer layer of the skin, which can also decrease discoloration that has come along during the summer. It is pivotal to reverse superficial damage from the summer sun on the surface. Using our Youthful Skin Peel Kit can help deliver noticeable anti-aging and skin smoothing benefits, and improves the appearance of pigmentation, fine lines and texture, from the comfort of your home.

Recover, Hydrate & Treat

The 3 Keys To Your Best Skin This Fall

As the summer sun sets and the season starts to change, our tans fade and we are left with the effects of the summer sun. Brown spots, freckles and soft wrinkles under our eyes appear, reminding us of the time spent outdoors. Reversing the damage requires maintaining a skincare regimen that includes quality, medical grade skincare ingredients, as well as incorporating medical grade anti-aging treatments and procedures.

Recover

Recovering from the effects of the summer sun requires key ingredients, such as Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid. Glycolic Acid is best for those with sensitive skin types who have normal-to-dry skin. Salicylic Acid peels are acidic solutions used to rejuvenate the surface of your skin. The solution acts on the outermost skin layers- causing them to disintegrate and be “peeled” away to reveal the underlying, unaffected skin.

Recovering the health of your skin is now available in the comfort of your home with our H&H Science Glycolic Cleansing Pads. These Glycolic pads will cleanse, degrease, and freshen the skin. It gently exfoliates dead skin and will remove surface debris and oil. Witch Hazel, a proven astringent, helps reduce surface oil and refine pore size. In addition to these glycolic pads, using a retinol every night is key to recovering the health of your skin. As our H&H Science Retinol Plus Smoothing Serum contains a unique combination of retinol and smoothing serum, it helps to enhance the skin, making it smoother and more evenly toned while reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

Hydrate

The strong summer sun dries out your skin. Transepidermal water loss, or TEWL, happens in both the summer and winter. In order to restore your natural glow, a hydrating moisturizer with key antioxidants, such as Vitamin A, C, E and Green Tea, is necessary. The ideal moisturizer should be selected according to your skin type. Heavier moisturizing creams are ideal for dry skin types, while serums and lotions are ideal for normal to oily skin types.

Hydrating and firming around the eye areas requires Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid has been nicknamed by the press as, “the key to the fountain of youth.” H&H Science Hydrating & Firming Eye Serum contains Hyaluronic Acid and is an ideal moisturizing cream that tightens and firms around the eye.

Treat

Treating deeper wrinkles and more advanced sun damage, as well as facial blood vessels, requires the use of the latest advances in medical grade treatments and procedures.

Our Photo Facial Microneedle Tool  combines conventional micro needling with the added benefit of color therapy. Color therapy is used to stimulate the biological activity of the skin at the cellular level. The needling forms micro channels in the skin, allowing increased product penetration. Penetration is further enhanced by the activity of the wavelengths used during the Photon therapy.

This ‘collagen induction therapy’ device effectively improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by plumping up the skin, to create a more youthful appearance. The Photo Facial Microneedle Tool is highly effective in improving a wide variety of skin conditions, such as: rough skin texture, enlarged pores, sun damage, wrinkles, scarring (acne, chicken pox, surgical), stretch marks and lax skin.

How To: Aging By Decade

As we age and our bodies change, our skin care products should change too. The same cleanser you used in your 20s might not work as well on your skin when you are in your 30s. During different stages of life, we have certain skin conditions and concerns. It is important to be aware of your skin during these phases, and use products that are applicable to your skin type and concerns.

20s

In your 20s, you can still get acne breakouts, especially if this is something you struggled with as a teen. Cleansing and moisturizing are pivotal in your skin care routine, as well as taking the steps to prevent acne. Although fine lines and wrinkles may not be of concern, it is a good time to start preventing aging before it is too late. Adding retinol to your nighttime routine works wonders in preventing both acne and aging. This vitamin A derivative can help prevent and treat clogged pores, while exfoliating excess pigment and sunspots, as well as building new elastin and collagen. Your 20s is also a good time to begin making sunscreen a habit. Applying it as your last step of your routine in the morning will help prevent photoaging and the development of fine lines and dark spots (as well as preventing skin cancer of course).

30s

In your 30s, aging starts to creep up. Not only does your career and personal life get more intense and hectic, but your once youthful skin now has a few fainted laugh lines and dark spots. While your 30s is a great time, it is also a lot of work. Although this stress does have an affect on your skin, but there are still chances to fight these early signs of aging. By now, you’ve hopefully got cleaning, moisturizing and protecting your skin with sunscreen daily down pat. Now, adding in a mix of exfoliation twice a week will keep your skin clear and smooth. As stress may be at an all-time high, the skin under your eyes is usually the first area to show signs of poor skin health and stress. Adding an eye cream to your routine will help boost collagen and elastin production.

40s

By the time you hit your 40s, your skin is a reflection of your skin care routine over the past few decades. The hormones and stress from your 30s carry into your 40s, while noticeable signs of aging begin to appear. Luckily, there are still ways to keep your skin concerns under control. Continuing to apply sunscreen during your morning routine is crucial, as sun exposure is a top cause of aging. Beginning to use a prescription-strength retinol, if you haven’t already, is also important, as it helps even out skin tones and stimulates the collagen in your skin. In your 40s, your skin may begin to have a certain dullness to it. Hydration is key to improving this concern, as using moisturizers and serums will help give the healthy look you are striving for.

50s

In your 50s, sagging and thinning skin begin to surface. The hormone decline that comes along with menopause creates a drastic change to our skin and body, making it essential that you consider maintaining your skin’s health as top priority. Dryness is also a common condition in your 50s, so using products that are infused with antioxidants and humectants will keep your skin nourished and radiant. Using a retinol during your nighttime routine promotes collagen production and cell turnover, helping to slow down the aging process. Therefore, no matter what product you choose, make sure you’re looking for two things: collagen production and hydration!

60s+

In your 60s, your skin becomes more sensitive than before, so using harsher prescription-strength products should be taken down a notch, by either switching to a gentler product or reducing the amount of times you use it. The sagging, thinning and dry skin from your 50s will continue in your 60s and beyond, therefore repairing and hydrating will remain crucial. Preventing additional sagging by using a hardworking serum can be helpful, using this product on your neck and chest as well. While we want to achieve younger-looking skin, and ‘trick’ people into thinking we are a decade younger than we are, it is far more important to be sure that you are maintaining beautiful and healthy skin that you are confident in.

As I am sure you noticed retinol was discussed in almost every decade as an important product for your skin: don’t forget that our Retinol Plus Youthful Peel Kits will be on sale this week- August 29th – 31st. This high-strength, two-step peel kit delivers noticeable anti-aging and skin smoothing benefits, and improves the appearance of pigmentation, fine lines and texture. It also enhances the tone and texture of your skin, while unclogging pores and promoting a healthy radiance.

How To Layer Products In Your Daily Regimen

Most of us have a plethora of skin care products that we use every day in an effort to make our skin look its best. We know we should cleanse our skin, protect it from the sun, moisturize and use certain treatments, but applying these products in any random order is not helping your skin in the long-run. Using these products in the correct order will allow you to master your daily skin care regimen and really be on the right path to the skin and complexion you are hoping for.

1. Cleanser

Whether you are beginning your morning routine, or nighttime, it is important to start with washing your face, especially with a cleanser that is right for your skin type and concerns. There is not a one-size-fits-all when it comes to cleansers, so really finding that one that has the ingredients that are meant for your skin is essential.

2. Toner

Depending on the ingredients in your chosen toner, it can do a lot more than just removing leftover makeup or cleanser that didn’t rinse off. From helping to hydrate and calm sensitive skin, to delivering antioxidants and other nutrients to the skin, toners have a variety of purposes. Toners include H&H Science’s Toning, Cleansing or Treatment Pads, which are applied to the entire face, avoiding the eyes, lips and mucous membranes.

3. Treatment Creams and Serums

Applying any special treatments for your skin concerns before moisturizing is important, as some serums and creams can be drying. Such treatments depend on your individual needs. If you are concerned with fine lines and wrinkles, your product choice may include retinol, peptides and antioxidants. If you are dealing with pigmentation issues, using a brightening treatment would be the best option.

4. Moisturize

Your moisturizer should be applied after your special treatments and prior to your sunscreen. This step is essential, even if you have oily skin. There are lightweight moisturizers that are also non-comedogenic, which means that it does not clog your pores. If you suffer from dry skin, nutrient-rich creams are important to repair the skin’s barrier and lock in moisture.

5. Protect

Protecting your skin by applying sunscreen is the last step in your morning skin care regimen. Sunscreen is a must, even in the winter. Up to 80% of the sun’s UV rays can penetrate your skin on cloudy days, and snow can reflect the sun’s rays onto your skin. Apply a dime sized amount to the entire face, avoiding the eyes, lips and mucous membranes. Allow the sunscreen to soak in and absorb for one minute. After this last step, mineral makeup can be applied.

Don’t forget- you have 5 days to save during our August Skin and Makeup sale. It begins Tuesday, August 22nd and lasts until Saturday, August 26th!
