Hydration vs. Moisturizing

We so often choose skin care and makeup products that moisturize and hydrate our skin, as we know that especially during the colder months, it is important to be sure our skin has enough water. Although the words hydrate and moisturize are often used interchangeably, they do not mean the same thing. While they do both provide our skin with nourishment, knowing the difference between the two will help us make a better decision, depending on our skin’s specific needs.

What Is The Difference?

Moisturizers and hydrators both tackle the importance of making sure our skin is getting the proper amount of moisture, in order to prevent environmental damage, signs of aging, and of course, dryness. How they go about achieving this result, however, is the true difference.

Naturally, our skin has a barrier that protects itself from damage and water loss. Those that are prone to having dry skin usually aren’t producing enough cells in order to form this protective barrier. This makes it hard for the skin to lock in moisture. Moisturizers would then help trap natural oils on the surface of your skin, in order to maintain a healthy balance of moisture.

On the other hand, hydration refers to the amount of water in the skin, not just on the surface. Therefore, hydrators deliver moisture down to the skin’s layers. An easy way to remember is dehydrated skin lacks water, and therefore would require hydration while dry skin lacks oil and needs to be moisturized.

What Do I Need?

Your skin needs both moisturizers and hydrators to maintain it’s health. Hydrating is what makes our skin soft, but if there is no oil on the surface to protect this hydration from evaporating, then it is not doing any good. Dry skin that is hydrated, yet not moisturized, will still flake. Conversely, if you’re applying a moisturizer and providing oil to the surface in order to smooth your skin, it is still lacking in hydration, which ultimately is what makes your skin soft.

It is important to choose a hydrator and moisturizer that works with your skin type and level of sensitivity. Hyaluronic acid is a crucial ingredient for hydrating. It is found in our H&H Science Skin Quench Hydrating Serum, as well as many other H&H Science products. As for moisturizers, go for rich creams that are packed with oils, extracts and nutrients in order to retain moisture, such as our H&H Science Facial Moisturizer

For those that have oily or acne prone skin, it is important to look for products that are non-comedogenic, such as our H&H Science Ultra Lite Oil Free Moisturizer, as it will not clog your pores and are less likely to cause breakouts.

She trains closely with our H&H Science team to stay up-to-date on the selection of skin care products.  Mercedes gave us a little insight on her favorite products and why she loves using H&H Science’s medical-grade products in her facials!

“When you receive an H&H Science facial, you get a deep and healthy over-all cleansing of the skin with medical-grade products that are specifically designed to help all skin types, in order to help you look and feel amazing. I really like to use medical-grade products, such as H&H Science, as opposed to over-the-counter products because I know where these products are coming from and what is in them. These products are designed to do exactly what they say they will do, while being safe for everyone to use.”

“During facials, my favorite H&H Science product to use is the Skin Quench Hydrating Serum. It provides an incredible boost of hydration that leaves your skin feeling super fresh. Who doesn’t need a little more hydration every now and then? I absolutely love doing facials because making my clients feel beautiful in their natural skin brings me a ton of joy. When your skin is beautiful, then you feel beautiful, and that is a fantastic feeling.”

“Aside from using H&H Science products during my facials, I also use them in my personal life. My favorite H&H product would be the Spot Treatment Gel. I hardly ever break out but I do have very oily skin, so using this product twice a week has helped control any flare ups in order to keep my skin clear.”

What Are the Benefits of a Teen Facial?

“Featuring the Medical Grade H&H Science Keep My Skin Clear Facial”

Adolescent skin generally produces more sebum or oil than more mature skin due to hormone changes. Although the skin is usually well hydrated at this age, excessive oil can contribute to acne. Most teens will experience clogged pores, acne and breakouts at some point during their teenage years.

Despite being busy with school, their social life and sports, it’s very important for them to make time to pay attention to their skin and to realize the importance of good skin care. In addition to a good daily skin care routine, a teen facial can help to unclog blocked pores, reduce oil and diminish the appearance of pores and clear acne.

If you have a teen or if you are a teen reading this, here are reasons why you should consider an H&H Science Keep My Skin Clear Teen Facial:
