The Ultimate Skin Care Routine for Teens

Finding the right teen skin care regimen can be overwhelming. Whether you are at the grocery store, mall or surfing online, you are bombarded with acne products that claim to clear up your skin! So, where do you start? Knowing your skin type and using a daily skin care regimen that includes your essential steps is the first important step to maintaining clear skin.

In addition to this, you also need to be using products that are effective and contain the right strength of active ingredients. Our H&H Science Teen Line contains a complete line of solution oriented treatments exclusively for teens that are medical grade. They are stronger and more effective than anything you can find over-the-counter or online. Finding the right Acne Kit for you starts with knowing your skin type and level of sensitivity. From there, you will be able to find the perfect skin care regimen for you!

Step 1 – What is Your Skin Type?

Before you can care for your skin and keep it healthy, you must know your type- your skin type, that is!
How-To-Identify-Your-Skin-Type.jpgDry Skin – Dry Skin is usually dull, rough and scaly and it can be itchy. Normal Skin – Normal Skin is usually smooth and even in texture with no visible blemishes, red spots or flaky patchesCombination Skin – Combination Skin typically has an oily T-Zone (forehead, nose, and chin) and dry skin elsewhere. Pores are usually larger and blackheads and whiteheads are common.

Oily Skin – Oily Skin types usually have a shiny complexion that is acne-prone. Pores are larger and open and blackheads and whiteheads are common.

Step 2 – What is Your Level of Sensitivity?

What is Next?

After finding the kit that is right for your skin type and level of sensitivity, it is important to know exactly what your daily skin care regimen should include, in order to fight acne or maintain clear skin. Cleansing daily is essential to removing dirt, oil and dead skin. After cleansing, a treatment, such as gentle exfoliants and acne treatments, should be used to treat pimples and all oily areas of the face. Following cleansing and treating your skin, hydration is next in line! Using an ultra-lightweight moisturizer will help maintain a healthy pH. As the last step in your regimen, it is important to protect your skin against UVA and UVB rays with a  lightweight, oil free sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher.

Strobing Is The New Contouring: How To Perfect The Look

What is strobing?

Strobing is essentially the application of a shimmery highlighter on the high planes of the face, where light would naturally bounce off. Unlike the concealer-bronzer-contour makeup techniques that look great in photos, but unnatural and heavy in daylight, strobing works beautifully in real life because light is always catching and reflecting off your skin. It is a much easier technique to learn and the highlighter simply amps up the reflective glow.

How to Strobe:

Strobing should be the final step in your makeup routine. It goes on top of all the other products you are wearing, such as foundation, blush, etc.

Strobe-06.png

Before you strobe, it’s really important to “mattify” the areas you don’t want emphasized, such as your forehead, chin and the tip of your nose. Otherwise, your whole face will have a greasy appearance. You will want to do this before you apply your foundation, tinted moisturizer or BB/CC cream. You can also use it over foundation in order to further mattify certain areas after makeup application. My favorite oil-absorber is our H&H Science Ultimatte Finish Powder.

Our NEW H&H Science Luminizer Stick is a creamy, conditioning stick illuminator that highlights cheekbones, diminishes darkness under the eyes and provides the skin with a healthy glow.  It contains Vitamins A, C & E that help to protect cells from free radical damage and aloe to soothe and condition skin.

Anti-Aging Snacks For The New Year

The new year is a perfect opportunity for those who want a fresh start. You may have tried to make a change in the past, but then decided to postpone it until next week, or maybe even next month. Next thing you know, it is months later and you never accomplished the goal you wanted to achieve so long ago. Now is a great time to sit down and plan out goals and lifestyle changes that you want to make this year, and actually work to accomplish them!

A lot of New Years Resolutions include changing one’s diet in order to achieve the body that they have been dreaming of. But, have you thought about changing your diet to foods that help fight your skin’s biological clock? It is important to make healthy choices and choose foods that nourish not only our body, but our skin as well. So, what foods can you eat that benefit both your body and your skin?

1. Berries

It is no surprise that collagen is important in order to maintain a fuller and younger appearance. Berries, such as strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, are high in Vitamin C and antioxidants, which both aid in collagen formation. Snacking on berries will help produce more collagen, which we produce less-and-less of as we get older.

2. Nuts

Nuts not only keep you feeling fuller, longer, but they can also help with anti-aging. Nuts are a great source of antioxidants, and minerals, which provide numerous benefits for our immune system, body and even skin!

3. Low-Sugar Snacks

Having excess sugar in your diet can make you age faster than you’d like. It can cause chronic inflammation and contribute to wrinkles as well. Instead of going for the chocolate cake, try going for low-sugar snacks, such as carrots, celery or crackers. This will help regulate your sugar levels when you are craving a snack.

4. Oily Fish

Fish is a great source of Omega-3 fatty acids, which help your skin stay firm. Fish, such as salmon, white fish and tilapia, are high in Vitamin D, which helps your immune system, cancer prevention and gives you the same benefits of being in the sun (in a way that is much better for your skin).

5. Greek Yogurt

Keeping your immune system in good shape will help prevent breakouts and skin issues. Yogurt serves the same purpose of a probiotic and regulates the absorption of nutrients from your gut.

What Could Be Causing Acne Breakouts

Acne can be hard to treat. You may have tried multiple acne treatments, yet your skin is still aggravated. While you are taking the right steps with trying to find the acne treatment that will help to clear your acne, there are quite a few things that contribute to acne breakouts that you may not even realize.

1. Skin Care Products That Clog Your Pores

There are certain ingredients in your skin care products that are known for clogging pores and causing breakouts. While it may be difficult to remember and look for the certain ingredients that are “pore cloggers,” looking for products that are “non-comedogenic” will make it a lot easier. “Non-comedogenic” means that it does not clog pores. This will ensure that the products you are using are not making your acne worse.

2. Sleeping With Your Makeup On

Leaving your makeup on overnight will hinder your skin’s renewal and clog your pores. Bacteria will then build up and cause inflammation, which can lead to acne. It is very important to make sure you are washing your face before bed, no matter how tired you may be! Your skin will thank you.

3. Your Pillowcase

Speaking of nighttime, it’s important to think about where your face is laying for the 7-8 hours you sleep at night. Your pillow can accumulate bacteria, dust and dead skin cells. It is important to wash your pillowcase as often as possible!

4. The Sun

While being in the sun increases your risk for developing skin cancer, it can also cause oil glands to become overactive, which can then lead to breakouts. Choosing an oil-free, non-comedogenic sunscreen will help protect your skin without causing a break out.

5. An Unhealthy Diet

What you eat changes the consistency of the oil on your skin, making it more likely to clog pores. Some food also tips your skin’s natural balance in a way that flares acne. Sticking to a healthy, low-fat, low-sugar diet will lessen flare-ups and make it easier to control with acne treatments.

6. Your Beauty Tools

Everything that comes in contact with your skin should be cleaned often to keep bacteria levels low. This includes any skin care devices, makeup brushes and even your phone screen. If you’re not cleaning your makeup brushes, try out our NEW H&H Science Heart Shaped Brush Cleaner. With this proper cleaning, your brushes are guaranteed to last longer than ever before, while preventing bacteria buildup.

Step 1: Wet your brush’s bristles under a running faucet with lukewarm water

Step 2: Use a gentle soap and lather on your makeup brush

Step 3: Gently scrub makeup brush on Heart Shaped Brush Cleaner

Step 4: Rinse the brush by scrubbing on the Heart Shaped Brush Cleaner under running water

Step 5: Squeeze excess water from brush, reshape and lay flat on a clean surface to dry
