4 Important Places You Aren’t Protecting From Sun (But Should)

Although you may already be aware of the importance of sunscreen, and its many benefits, as it reduces your risk of melanoma and other types of skin cancer, it is important to also realize when to apply, where to apply, and how often. Most of the time, we only apply sunscreen on areas that we assume get the most sun exposure, often forgetting about those hard-to-reach areas. But here’s the thing: Melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer, can appear anywhere on the body, including areas we neglect to protect from the sun—like our lips, the top of our ears and even the soles of our feet. By making sure you cover all your bases, and applying sunscreen to every exposed area of skin, you significantly decrease the threat of melanoma and other types of skin cancer. To help you with this, here are the four places you tend to miss protecting your skin from the sun, but are unquestionably important to cover.

1. Lips

In order to protect your lips, try using a gloss or balm that has SPF. This will help protect your lips from UV damage, as the most common types of  nonmelanomaskin cancer often occur on our lips.

Try: Vibran-C Lip Treatment SPF 15

2. Scalp

Although protecting your scalp is more prevalent in men with thinning hair, those with long or thick hair are still vulnerable to melanoma. Wearing caps and wide-brimmed hats during prolonged sun exposure allow you to protect your scalp (and look stylish, of course)!

Try: H&H Science Silc Sheer SPF 50+ Sunscreen Spray

3. Face

According to the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, a 2013 survey revealed that only 30 percent of women apply sunscreen on their face and other exposed skin regularly. Considering that 70 percent of basal cell carcinoma occur on the face, this statistic is scary. Applying sunscreen to your face, or brightening cream with SPF, is pivotal when being out in the sun.

Try: Tinted Brightening BB Cream SPF 50+

4. Eyelids

This may seem like an odd spot to protect from the sun, but eyelids are another common site for nonmelanoma skin cancer. Many skip this area, as some sunscreens may leave a stinging sensation on your eye. In order to protect your eyelids, try using makeup or primer with SPF, aiding in protecting your face overall, including your eyelids.

Try: Retexturizing Face Primer SPF 20

What to Pack for Any Summer Weekend Getaway

From lounging poolside or soaking up the sun by the ocean or lake, there’s no better reason to get out of town (and away from your computer and work routine.)

If you are also looking to save some money, time, and avoid a luggage mishap, packing light for these small getaways is the way to go. With TSA’s 3.4-ounces limit, you might have to leave behind your jumbo-size bottle of shampoo at home. The good news? H&H Science has your go-to list below for summer-inspired and travel-sized beauty products for your body, face and more.

Need ideas? Here’s what to pack in your carry-on this summer so you can spend your weekends hitting the shore and running in style.

A Purse-Friendly Cleansing Device

Packing light doesn’t always mean sacrificing comforts. If you love thoroughly cleansing your face with a face-cleansing device every night, consider swapping your builder gadget with our H&H Sonic Facial Cleansing Device. Small in size but powerful in action, this device not only is self-cleaning, but it also removes dirt and imperfection from your pores without taking a ton of precious real estate in your luggage. You can use this Sonic Device 300x before it runs out of power, so feel free to power up and leave the charger at home.

Your Entire Skin Care Routine – in TSA-Approved Sizes

Prioritizing your skin’s health (even on vacation) is totally fine. Taking the time to empty all of your skin care products into the travel-approved size bottles is such a hassle. The good news? All of the regular-sized products in our H&H Anti-Photoaging Systems are in TSA-Approved sizes. This travel- friendly set (comes in Normal and Sensitive) has your full skin care regimen (the BB Cream doubles as makeup and SPF).

Makeup Multitaskers: The Nude Kit

Instead of packing multiple kits and palettes in your makeup bag, consider our 3-in-one H&H Nude Kit. Complete with 9 neutral eyeshadows, 1 highlight, 1 contour and 2 blush colors.

Your Sun-Kissed Tan: Fake Bake Flawless Self-Tan Liquid Travel Size

Even if you’re going to the beach, it’s great to have your sunless-tanner with you to maintain that refreshed and sun-kissed glow. Fake Bake’s Liquid Flawless Self Tanner is now travel size. And BONUS – it comes with a FREE professional application mitt. (LIMITED TIME ONLY – now available in-store only at H&H Science).

Memorial Day Makeup Guide

Memorial day is a day of remembrance, family, barbecue and messy faces. You can’t go wrong showing up to your holiday events rocking some classic red and white, maybe even a little blue. So in addition to having a Tide-To-Go pen on you at all times, you may want to keep these simple makeup tips in mind for your Memorial Day!

Prepare Your Face for the Elements

There’s a few givens when it comes to Memorial Day. First Sun – expect lots of sun. For this reason, your sunscreen is an absolute must! You are going to want a facial sunscreen with SPF 50+ that will ward off those rays! I recommend any of our H&H Sunscreens, or if you want a great 2-in-1, try our Tinted Brightening BB Cream SPF 50+ as it combines both your foundation and SPF in one fabulous product.

Secondly, you are going to get BBQ sauce all over your face. No matter how classy you may be, it’s going to happen. For this reason, we recommend keeping a touch of powder foundation with you to touch up after cleaning up.

Be Realistic With Your Lip Color

Barbecue is not an easy meal on your lip color, adding in the consumption of all the other delicious sides and your lips are going to have a hard time remaining perfect. To start, we recommend wearing either alight colored liquid lip that brightens your appearance with a festive, laid-back look. Then you can progress to your Memorial Day red lipstick after you eat. Our favorites are our H&H Liquid Lipstick in the color Mink Pink and H&H Luxury Matte Lipstick in the color Red Carpet.

Simple Makeup

Sometimes it can be easy to get swept up in holiday themes, but nothing will make a better statement than a clean, natural makeup look. Wearing nude-colored eyeshadow, mineral foundation, having full shapely brows, and a coat of volume mascara will create a stunning, natural look.

Brand Ambassador Gabby’s May Favorites

I love all my H&H Science products, but one that I’ve been using the most is my H&H Nude Kit and my H&H Contour Brush.

My makeup from H&H Science is my go to in the mornings before school or for a special event. The kit has one contour shade, one highlight shade and two blushes. The brown color is good for contouring and bronzing and the lightest shade is good for highlighting and making your contour look sharp and not sloppy.

Every morning I contour my cheek bones, nose and forehead. The powers in the kit are so pigmented that I only need a little bit for my desired look. I also love how lightweight they are. A little definitely goes a long way with all these powders.

I also recently purchased a H&H Science Contour Brush that I’ve also been using daily along with the Nude Kit. I love ALL of my H&H brushes because they last a long time and after you clean them they still look brand new!

Every morning I now use my Contour Brush and give myself a more natural look, but still giving my face definition. I’m definitely impressed with these products. I recommend these to anyone who loves makeup!

My 3 Favorite Face Products for Spring

As the weather changes, so does the makeup and other face products I use. Since it’s getting warmer I like to use products that are lighter on my skin. They are my go to for this time of year!

Ultra Lite Oil Free Moisturizer

I have been loving this moisturizer since I started using it! It is great for any time of year, but I especially love it now. As it starts getting warmer, my skin starts to get oilier and this moisturizer is the fix. It gets the job done without being too heavy on my skin. Don’t forget even when your skin is oily you still need to moisturize!

Mineral Sheer Tint

I have only been using this for about a month, but the second I put it on my skin I fell in love. It gives me just the right about of coverage, but still feels like I’m not wearing anything! It’s so easy to apply but my favorite way is to use my flawless face blender. This product is great if you don’t feel like wearing a lot of makeup everyday.

Nude Kit

Perfect for any look, I have been using my kit extra lately. Whether you want a subtle glow or perfectly defined cheek bones, the H&H Nude Kit can do it all. I have been using the bronze shade around the perimeter of my face to give a little color. Fake a summer tan in the spring!
